Dear Friends of Geoffrey:

Our calendar listing is open for all to submit events honoring Geoffrey Platts.

Upcoming Events

21 June 2004 -  Proclamation of the Towns of Cave Creek and Carefree on this date in 2001 proclaimed "from this day forward... June 21, the Natural world's first day of Summer, as Geoffrey Platts Day."

Past Events

Geoffrey's Bench Dedication - April 13, 2003  .A bench, “a place of repose and reflection,” was dedicated to Geoffrey at  “Jewel of the Creek,” part of the Desert Foothills Land Trust holdings near Cave Creek, honoring our dear Friend, Nature, and land preservation.

Halloween 2002 - Kerr Cultural Center: Geoffrey Platt's death in 2000 ended a Valley tradition. Every Halloween, he would scare audiences at the Kerr Cultural Center with his spooky readings from Edgar Allan Poe and other masters of the macabre. This year, Dolan Ellis, Arizona's official balladeer, and Marshal Trimble, the state's official historian, join forces to tell ghost stories - but with a Southwestern twist. One thing didn't change.  The Audiences were asked to dress for the occasion.  Performances were at 8 p.m. October 31 and November 1 at the Center, 6110 N Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale.  Tickets: $15 - $18. Details: 480-596-2660.

Halloween 2002 - On the Spot Theater - Poet and author David Chorlton read De Maupassant, Poe, Noyes, and more on Thurs., Halloween 2002. Two performances at 4700 N. Central Ave. (NW Corner of Central and Highland), an hour and a half each. Costumes were welcomed.
     -- 12:30 p.m., Tessa’s Tea and Treasures: $18 (includes lunch).
     -- 7:30 p.m., On the Spot Theater, $12, $10 students and seniors.
Phone 602-564-6606 to reserve tickets (for purchase and pickup immediately prior to show time).

14 April, Sat., 430pm, 2001 - The Nature Conservancy Patagonia-Sonoita Creek Preserve, Patagonia (520 394-2400). Please visit our Platts Trail Dedication page. A celebration of Geoffrey's life - the 14th is his birthday -- with memories, poems, songs and whatever else people bring to share-including a potluck dinner at the visitor center after our time together by the creek.

19 April, 2001 Th., 7pm - Changing Hands Bookstore, 6428 S. McClintock Dr (between Baseline and Guadalupe), Tempe, AZ 85283 (480 730-0205).  "SPEAKING OF EARTH DAY." Poetry relating to Earth Day by Dorothy Lykes and David Chorlton will be complemented by presentations from The Sierra Club's Sandy Bahr and Frank Welsh (Haunted Canyon and Pinto Creek), and others.
