Letter to Friends of Geoffrey
Platts
Greetings Friends of Geoffrey:
February 2002
It's been over a year since Geoffrey left us. I'm sure
that many of his friends will be interested to learn about the
disposition of his personal papers or of activities relating to the
preservation of his memory and his work.
Last winter Geoffrey's friend, the historian Marshall Trimble,
encouraged us to donate his papers to the Arizona Historical Foundation
currently located on the ASU campus. The contents of Geoffrey's cabin
have been thoroughly sorted by a group of his friends and at this time
about three-quarters of the papers have been turned over to this
organization. I'm sure that there are some who may wish to access this
material and others who have letters, photos, or other memorabilia to
add to this collection. To learn more, please contact the Arizona
Historical Foundation at the following address:

Those interested in acquiring a copy of the published
collection of journals, Trek! Man Alone in the Arizona Wild, you
will want the following information. The second printing has been
donated to The Nature Conservancy, and copies are available through
Geoffrey's friend Jeffrey Cooper, manager of the Sonoita Creek Preserve
in Patagonia, Arizona, ph. #520-394-2400. Additional copies were
supplied to Geoffrey's friend Jim Zeno, owner of The Book Barn in Cave
Creek, Arizona, ph. #480-488-9589.
Some of Geoffrey's friends may be interested in simply staying in touch
with each other or sharing letters, photos, and other memories. Others
may wish to learn more about Geoffrey's life, philosophy, and work. A
small group has gathered under the name of "Friends of
Geoffrey" (or FOG) to sponsor a website. The web address is http://www.idowebpages.com/platts/index.html.
Feel free to log on and consider sharing your e-mail address to receive
periodic "FOG alerts".
I hope the above information will aid in keeping inspiration alive for
those who wish to help carry on Geoffrey's love of literature and the
natural world.
Sincerely,
Charles LeFevre
P.S. It's unlikely that this message will reach all of
Geoffrey's many friends, so please share this information with other
interested persons.
