Re: |
Dear Friends of Geoffrey...
|
|
What: |
5th Annual Geoffrey Platts
and Earth Day Celebration. |
|
When: |
Saturday, April 14, 2007
(Geoffrey's birthday), 9am to 11am. Note: We've made it an hour earlier
this year. |
Where:
|
Geoffrey's bench at Jewel
of the Creek Preserve in Cave Creek (directions below). |
|
Why: |
Our fifth annual gathering
to honor

the memory of our
naturalist friend, Geoffrey Platts, and to reaffirm the importance of
Earth Day. We will discuss accomplishments of these five years,
challenges in the future and how to meet them. We welcome all who care
about Mother Earth - our "Madrecita," as Geoffrey would say. We hope
you will stay for lunch down by the creek where we will continue our
conversation and share readings or writings. |
|
What to bring:
|
Water bottle, hat, your
lunch (optional) and something to sit on. |

Directions to "Jewel of the
Crown" Spur Cross:
--- >From Phoenix, drive north (e.g., on Cave Creek Road, on I-17) to the
intersection of Cave Creek Rd. and Carefree Hwy. From that intersection
(stoplight) drive northeast on Cave Creek Rd., away from Phoenix and toward
Cave Creek 2+ miles. On the outskirts of Cave Creek, where the residential
ends and business begins, turn left on Spur Cross, where there is a
left-turn lane, a sign "Spur Cross," and the restaurant The Cracked Crab.
Follow Spur Cross signs some three miles until the end of the Spur Cross Rd.
pavement, then continue another mile on a good dirt road to a large corral
gateway structure, the upright poles are on either side of the road, with
the crosspiece extending over the road. Turn left and park immediately
BEFORE the gateway. The quarter-mile walking trail, flat, parallel to the
road you came in on, in the direction you just drove from, begins at a
fence, goes through low thick desert vegetation to a clearing and location
of Geoffrey's bench, which marks the beginning of the trail down to the
creek.

"We are on the threshold of a new Revelation, a new awakening. But what we
have accomplished up to this time must be multiplied a thousand-fold if the
great battles are to be joined and won. Man must affirm his Spiritual
Kinship with the Eternity of Nature." - Ansel Adam
