"Jewel of the Creek" preserve just north of Cave Creek on Spur Cross Road

This annual event is purposely scheduled in early spring, that season of new life and new beginnings. It is in very rough alignment with the vernal equinox, with Earth Day, and with Geoffrey Platts' birthday. It has been more than 10 years since our friend left us but the message he untiringly voiced for the love and protection of Nature is more important than ever. In continuing this annual tradition we meet with those of like mind to remember Geoffrey and to reaffirm these values. This annual event has dwindled in scale from its inception back in April of 2003 when memories of Geoffrey were still fresh. It has been scaled down to a smaller, more informal creekside picnic gathering. All are welcome.

The beautiful riparian oasis, known as "Jewel of the Creek", is part of the Desert Foothills Land Trust holdings, just a short drive north of the town of Cave Creek on Spur Cross Road. The creekside is down a short, steep path just below the site of Geoffrey’s memorial bench. There will be signs to direct attendees to the gathering site. Be sure to bring a hat, water, and a picnic lunch. A lightweight folding chair might be worth the effort.

And consider bringing something to read. This can be poetry or prose, borrowed or original. An appropriate theme would be anything "in praise of or defense of Nature".
Geoffrey’s Estate: Progress to Date & Future Plans

Greeting Friends of Geoffrey ... It was 8 years ago, in the winter & spring of 2001, that I helped clean out our friend Geoffrey’s cabin alongside Camp Creek. We removed roughly 50 boxes of cabin contents, mostly papers, into temporary storage. These papers, along with assorted memorabilia & performancet apes, condensed to a total of 42 boxes, were accepted by the Arizona Historical Foundation in the following year. There they lay for 4 years, in the Hayden Library on the ASU campus in Tempe and later in an off-campus warehouse facility. Little was done to further organize the papers during that time.
