Town of Cave Creek, and
Town of Carefree
Proclamation Honoring
Geoffrey Platts

A note to you all.

Monday, June 4, 2001, the Town of Cave Creek had our swearing in ceremony for our new mayor and council. The same evening we read a proclamation honoring Geoffrey Platts.

David and Mel Phelps and myself, Shea Stanfield, wrote the proclamation. Mayor Vincent Francia of Cave Creek, helped me get notices to all the elected officials and appointed officials of Cave Creek and Carefree, as well as placing it on the agenda for us that evening.

We invited Margaret Stewart of the Carefree Planning and Zoning Commission to read a selection from "Trek". We also invited Alan Northcott, Chairman of the Cave Creek Planning and Zoning Commission to read a selection from "Pen Points" and Mayor Vincent Francia, Cave Creek, and Mayor Ed Morgan, Carefree, shared the reading of the proclamation. I have included it below.

Whereas Geoffrey Platts came to Arizona for adventure and ended up falling in love with the enchanting Sonoran Desert,

Whereas Geoffrey Platts fought tirelessly for the Natural world,

Whereas Geoffrey Platts loved the summer sun, the summer solitude and the summer solstice,

Whereas Geoffrey Platts became Nature's ambassador in our community through his example and writings,

Whereas Geoffrey Platts became an advocate of Nature to be written with a capital "N".

Whereas Geoffrey Platts dedicated his lifestyle to one of simplicity,

Whereas Geoffrey Platts proudly served as Poet Laureate for the City of Scottsdale,

Whereas Geoffrey Platts kept alive the art of letter writing and reading of classic literature through his network of people in our global community,

We now proclaim the Town of Cave Creek recognized Geoffrey Platts as Cave Creek's Poet Laureate, emeritus.

So may all people witness today, this 4th day of June 2001, that from this day forward the Town of Cave Creek with our neighbors of the Town of Carefree, proclaim June 21, the Natural world's first day of summer, as Geoffrey Platts Day.

Thank you to all of you for your love and support of the
environment...

Shea Stanfield, Councilwoman, Town of Cave Creek

Thank You!.....Shea!
